Job Title:             Pest Control & Bed Bug Technician

Reports to:        Director of Asset Management/Maintenance/Lead Pest Control Exterminator

General Purpose:

The primary objective of this position is to assist in eliminating or controlling the infestation of rodents, bed bugs, insects, and other nuisance pests from housing units. The position is responsible for executing pest control operations within our housing developments. This role requires expertise in identifying, managing, and eliminating pest infestations while adhering to safety standards, guidelines, and regulations in place with the State of Ohio and Stark County, Ohio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs pest control, but not limited to spraying, chemical applications, treatments, bait stations, pesticides, and placing traps in housing units, agency buildings, and grounds to control or eliminate pests including, but not limited to insects, termites, ants, spiders, bed bugs, rodents, etc.
  • Operates and monitors bed bug heat treatment equipment to heat housing units to the proper temperature to rid bed bug infestation.
  • Proactively inspects housing units to identify problems and potential problem areas. Determines appropriate solutions and methods to resolve pest control and rodent problems per applicable standards, trade practices, and regulations.
  • Mixes chemical products based on product instructions, formulas, and EPA standards. Secures adequate materials and supplies to complete work assignments.
  • Performs annual preventive pest control treatments per HUD’s Integrated Pest Control Management plan.
  • Receives and completes work orders and responds to complaints from tenants, the health department, and management regarding pest and rodent problems. Prioritizes and schedules work orders with the assistance of the Lead Exterminator.
  • Completes all required work records and documents promptly as defined by the Director.
  • Operates and maintains various tools and equipment common to the trade in proper working conditions.
  • Operates an agency vehicle to transport work materials and products to and from the job site and inspect problem areas.
  • Wear proper PPE as required by law or product specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • 1–2 years experience in pest control preferred but not required

Qualifications/Skills

  • Licensed pest control operator (State of Ohio).
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable under SMHA policies
  • Knowledge and ability to properly follow policies, and procedures and work independently to complete work to achieve desired outcomes and quality standards.
  • Thorough knowledge, skill, and experience in applying the methods, sequences, materials, procedures, trade practices, and techniques used to control and eliminate the infestation of including, but not limited to insects, termites, bed bugs, rodent infestation, etc.
  • Skill and experience using various power tools, hand tools, and other equipment necessary to complete the pest control work.
  • Knowledge of properties, characteristics, and hazards of various chemicals.
  • Ability to accurately calculate and mix chemical solutions.
  • Knowledge of EPA guidelines regarding the use and application of pesticides and other pest control chemicals

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the incumbent to frequently walk, sit, stand, bend, climb, kneel, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed. Employees will inspect properties, which include ascending and descending stairs to meet with residents, conduct physical inspections, and observe property activities.

Working Conditions:

Work indoors and outdoors. Walk through residential buildings, houses, and properties. Potential exposure to hazardous conditions at times. Work in moderate to severe temperature or weather conditions. The environment may produce excessive loud noise at times.

This position involves exposure to environmental conditions including toxic materials, gases, dirt, fumes, odors, and extremes in temperature. Proper PPE is required.
